A Sony A7C II Travel Kit: Lenses, Batteries, Charging and Total Weight

The Sony A7C II is 514 g with battery and card, which makes it one of the lightest full-frame bodies with a viewfinder. Here are three travel kits built around it, from a 681 g walk-around kit to a two-lens kit, with batteries, charging, backups and the weight of adding a drone and a 360 camera.

The Sony A7C II weighs 514 g with its battery and a card, and its NP-FZ100 battery holds 16.4 Wh, more than twice the energy of the small batteries in some lighter full-frame bodies. For travel, the lens decides the kit: with Sony's FE 28-60mm kit zoom the camera is 681 g, with the FE 40mm F2.5 G prime 687 g, and with the FE 20-70mm F4 G just over 1 kg. Below are three kits, then batteries, charging and backups.

The NP-FZ100 is the same battery used across Sony's current full-frame line, including the A7 IV, A7 V, A7CR, ZV-E1 and FX3, as well as the APS-C A6700 and ZV-E10 II. If you travel with a second Sony body, the batteries are shared.

Three lenses that suit travel

LensListed weightCamera plus lensWhat it is for
Sony FE 28-60mm F4-5.6167 g681 gThe smallest zoom: walk-around and city days with a small shoulder bag
Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G173 g687 gOne prime for streets, food and people, better in low light than the kit zoom
Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G488 g1002 gOne lens for most trips: wide enough for interiors and landscapes, long enough for portraits

Lens weights as listed in Sony's specifications, reported by The-Digital-Picture and Photography Blog; body weight from our data, checked October 2026.

The 321 g between the 28-60mm and the 20-70mm is the biggest weight decision in this kit, bigger than choosing between most full-frame bodies. Our lightest full-frame cameras for travel ranks the bodies if you are still choosing one.

Three kits

1. The pocket kit: 681 g

  • A7C II with FE 28-60mm
  • One spare NP-FZ100
  • One spare SD card

For city breaks where the camera goes everywhere. The 28-60mm has a slow f/4-5.6 aperture, which makes it the weak point in low light; that is the price of the size.

2. The two-small-lens kit: 854 g of glass and body

  • A7C II with FE 28-60mm (681 g)
  • FE 40mm F2.5 G in the bag (173 g)
  • Two spare NP-FZ100s, two spare SD cards

The zoom for daytime, the prime for evenings and people. Both lenses together weigh 340 g, still less than the 20-70mm alone.

3. The one-lens-for-everything kit: 1002 g

  • A7C II with FE 20-70mm F4 G
  • Two spare NP-FZ100s, two spare SD cards

No lens changes, a wide 20 mm for interiors and 70 mm for portraits. Heavier, but one lens means less to lose, fewer dust problems and one filter size.

Filter sizes, as listed: 72 mm for the 20-70mm, 49 mm for the 40mm and 40.5 mm for the 28-60mm. The two-small-lens kit therefore needs two sets of filters or a step-up ring, which is one more small thing to lose.

Which kit for which trip

TripKitWhy
City break, mostly walking1. Pocket kitLightest; the camera actually comes with you
Food, people and evenings out2. Two small lensesThe f/2.5 prime for low light, the zoom for daytime
Landscapes, interiors, one-bag trips3. One lens for everything20 mm wide end, no lens changes in dust or rain

Whichever you choose, pack the lens caps and a cloth. With one card slot and no second body, the camera is also the single point of failure on the trip, which is the argument for a phone or small second camera you trust as a backup.

Batteries

Bring at least one spare NP-FZ100, and two for days with a lot of video. They are 16.4 Wh each, far under the 100 Wh airline line, so no approval is needed. They must travel in your cabin bag with the terminals protected; keep the plastic caps Sony supplies. IATA's 2026 guidance caps spares at 20 per person. See camera batteries on planes.

Charging

The A7C II charges its battery in the camera over USB-C and supports USB Power Delivery. That means the same USB-C charger and cable can serve the camera, phone and laptop. If you carry two or more spares and want to charge them while shooting with the camera, an external NP-FZ100 charger lets you charge a battery while the camera is in use.

Abroad you need a plug adapter, not a converter, if the charger is rated 100-240 V. See charging camera gear abroad.

One card slot: back up every night

The A7C II has a single SD UHS-II slot, so there is no in-camera backup copy. On a trip, copy the card every evening to a laptop or a portable SSD, and to a second drive if you can, then verify the copies before you reuse the card. Verified copy vs drag and drop shows how. Sony's video files come with sidecar files and folders that are easy to break by copying only the MP4s; read Sony XAVC files explained before your first trip.

Adding a drone and a 360 camera

If the A7C II is your main camera on a multi-camera trip, here is what the common additions weigh from our data:

ItemWeight
A7C II with FE 20-70mm F4 G1002 g
DJI Mini 4 Pro249 g
Two spare Mini 4 Pro batteries (about 77.9 g each)156 g
Insta360 X5200 g
Two spare NP-FZ100 batteriesnot published
Total, before controller, chargers, cables and bag1607 g plus the camera batteries

Specs from the makers' published data, checked October 2026.

That leaves room under a 7 kg cabin limit, but the bag, a laptop and the drone controller fill it quickly. See camera bag weight and carry-on limits for how to split it.
