How Much Does My Camera Gear Weigh? Reference Weights for Cameras, Drones, Phones and More
Reference weights from the makers for the gear people actually travel with: APS-C and compact cameras, drones by takeoff weight, action, 360 and pocket cameras, phones, tablets and smart glasses. Then a simple spreadsheet to total your own kit and what the makers' numbers leave out.
On the makers' own figures, an APS-C or Micro Four Thirds body weighs 343 to 805 g, a compact 257 to 772 g, a sub-250 g drone 135 to 249.9 g, an action, 360 or pocket camera 39 to 207 g, a current phone 165 to 233 g and a tablet 444 to 616 g. A camera, a drone, a 360 camera, a phone and a tablet together come to about 1.6 kg before lenses, chargers and the bag. The tables below list the makers' weights for the gear people actually travel with. Add your own items, and weigh what the makers do not list, such as lenses, cables and the bag.
How to read makers' weights
Makers measure differently, and the difference is the battery and card:
- Sony, Fujifilm and Canon usually list the camera with battery and memory card.
- Nikon lists with battery and card but without the body cap and shoe cover.
- DJI drones list takeoff weight: drone, battery and propellers.
- GoPro lists with battery and mounting fingers.
- Small clip-on cameras are often listed without their dock or pod.
- Phones and tablets are the device alone; Wi-Fi and cellular versions can differ by a few grams.
A 10 g difference between brands is noise. A 100 g difference is real.

Total your own kit
A spreadsheet with three columns does the job. Paste this into a new sheet, replace the rows with your gear, and keep the weights you measure yourself:
Item,Weight (g),Source
Sony A7C II,514,maker
Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G,488,maker (listed)
DJI Mini 4 Pro,249,maker
Drone controller,,weigh it
Insta360 X5,200,maker
Spare batteries (4),,weigh them
Chargers and cables,,weigh them
Camera bag (empty),,weigh it
TOTAL,=SUM(B2:B9),The empty rows are the point. Makers do not list what your chargers, cables, straps, filters, card wallet and bag weigh, and together they can decide whether a cabin bag passes a 7 or 8 kg limit. A kitchen scale handles small items; a luggage scale handles the packed bag.
We are building a gear list for All My Cameras that does this sum for you and splits a kit into bags by weight. Until it is ready, the spreadsheet works.
Three example totals
| Kit | Items | Total (makers' weights) |
|---|---|---|
| Ricoh GR IV, DJI Osmo Pocket 3, iPhone 17 | 618 g | |
| Adventure | DJI Osmo Action 6, Insta360 X5, DJI Mini 4 Pro, Pixel 10 | 802 g |
| Creator | Sony A7C II, DJI Mini 5 Pro, Insta360 X6, iPad Air 11 (2026), iPhone 17 Pro Max | 1657 g |
Specs from the makers' published data, checked October 2026. Totals are before lenses, controllers, spare batteries, chargers and the bag.
When the total is close to your airline's limit, camera bag weight and carry-on limits covers what can move to the hold and what cannot.
